Projektinformation “Geteiltes Land”

1. Titel
2. Motive aus Nord, Süd, Ost, West
3. Teilung durch die Formate

Project information “Divided Land”

Similar to my previous projects, "Divided Land" functions primarily through the imagination or emotion of the viewer, or in this case the reader, in whose head pictures or associations are created by this title that in the end have nothing in common with the “product”, i. e. the motifs, of the exhibition.

Politically, “Divided land” is a heavily loaded term, but only when related to a particular political division such as North and South Korea or East and West Germany. I now adapt this loaded term for something completely different, but in the actual sense of the word a much more appropriate topic, namely “divided landscape”, i. e. I release the term from its political burden and use it in a new context. The emotions of the image viewer that emerge from this new interpretation are thereby intended, but for me they are not assessable, just like in my projects “Revisited” and “Cologne Revisited” as well.

As a further dimension of the term divided landscape, I have compiled motifs from every point of the compass, on journeys north, south, east and west.

I further divide the land through the formats themselves. The divisions are created through the assembly of different parts of pictures, or with “white spaces”, which, due to the cutting of the pictures or the omission of picture parts or information, must be completed by the viewer.

The final divide exists in all the work, through the division or interaction of the people. I do not picture untouched, romantic or idealising landscapes, but adapted - divided - nature.

In summary, I work on this project in 4 dimensions:

1. Title
2. Motifs from the north, south, east and west
3. Division through the formats
4. Division/interaction of the pictured landscapes through people.
